Book Review: When it Rains

WHEN IT RAINS by Lisa De Jong: One night changed my life forever.

Beau Bennett has been my best friend since I can remember. He was my first crush before everything came crashing down, and now he wants more, but it's more than I can give him. Things are different now. I wish I could tell him why, but I can't.

I haven’t told anyone.

I never knew how much I really needed him until the day he left for college, and I was completely alone.

Then one day, Asher Hunt rides into town with his dark, captivating eyes and cocky grin. He doesn't care who I used to be, he's simply breathing life into what’s left. People warn me to stay away from him, but he helps me forget the pain that has held me hostage for so long; something I thought was impossible before he walked into my life.

I’ve been hurt.

I’ve been saved.

And I’ve found hope.

I thought my story was written that night, but now I know it was only a new beginning. Until one secret turns my world upside down…

Lori's thoughts: This book was ranked at the top of the New Adult best seller's list over the weekend, and I can certainly see why, after reading it. Be warned...if you're going to read this book, be prepared to cry. You will absolutely cry. A lot. My heart broke for Kate for what she went through. Then my heart broke for Beau for how Kate let him go because she didn't think he would want her after what had happened. Then...Asher. Just when I thought it was safe to put away the Kleenex comes another bombshell. At about 60% of the way through the book. I don't think I stopped crying the whole last 40% of the book. It's a remarkable story. Not your typical read, at all.

The only reason I didn't give the book 5 stars is because I didn't connect immediately with the voice -- and there were a few minor typos. Nothing major, and it didn't distract that much from my reading pleasure. I just noticed them. Overall, I loved the book and look forward to more from this author in the future.
