Book Review: Me Without You

Me Without You by Kelly Rimmer: If you enjoyed Me Before You by JoJo Moyes, One Day by David Nicholls, or The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks – then make time for Kelly Rimmer’s stunning, heartbreaking new novel Me Without You.

A story of how love can break our hearts – and heal them.

A year ago I met the love of my life. For two people who didn’t believe in love at first sight, we came pretty close.

Lilah MacDonald – beautiful, opinionated, stubborn and all kinds of wonderful in ways that words could never quite capture. The woman who taught me to live again.

My Lilah, who gave me so much, and yet kept from me a secret that she knew would break my heart.

My name is Callum Roberts, and this is our story.

Me Without You is a book to make you smile, bring you to tears and remind you to hold on tightly to those you love.

This book was given in return for an honest review

Me Without You was for me a story of two definite halves. It really took me until halfway to connect with the characters Lilah and Callum. I always felt that something big was being kept from me and boy was I right. In the first half of the book Lilah and Callum had a pretty 'normal' relationship, they met on their way home from work and quickly fell into a simple routine of meals and weekends together. However, this changed at the halfway point, when we learnt more about Lilah and her family but this wasn't information that Callum was privy to. We discovered her father died from Huntington's disease and that Lilah unfortunately had it too. From this point in, the pace of the story picked up and despite pushing Callum away he came back to her and she taught him how to live a life while she slowly lost hers. This is emotional and sensitively written with care taken to be in my opinion very true to reality.
This story shows true love develop in a realistic time frame. And how love can teach us to really live. Please don't give up on this book at the beginning like I nearly did it really is worth reading and I give it 4 hearts.
