Book Review: Twisted Together

Twisted Together (Monsters in the Dark #3) by Pepper Winters: “After battling through hell, I brought my esclave back from the brink of ruin. I sacrificed everything—my heart, my mind, my very desires to bring her back to life. And for a while, I thought it broke me, that I’d never be the same. But slowly the beast is growing bolder, and it’s finally time to show Tess how beautiful the dark can be.”

Q gave everything to bring Tess back. In return, he expects nothing less. Tess may have leashed and tamed him, but he’s still a monster inside.

After surviving the darkness, a new dawn has begun. Twisted Together wades through black to grey, chasing the light of true love to banish the shadows forever.

Pain is a requirement, connection a necessity. But ultimately Q and Tess must face their demons, before they can embrace their future.

TeriLyn's thoughts: Pepper Winters totally hooked me with her Monsters in the Dark series from the minute I started Tears of Tess. There came a point after QQ where I couldn't wait to read Twisted Together. When I finally got to sit down with this book I found myself reading so much then putting it down and starting something else. This is the reason why I've only given it 4 stars instead of 5.

Q and Tess are back in a big way in the finally installment of their lives. Tess having physically survived the heinous acts committed to her and by her mentally reels every single day. Her strength even when waning is astounding. She pulls strength from Q. He's the most in love man I think I've ever read. Q gains strength from Tess so much and she doesn't even realize the power she has over him. Together, through the most unconventional methods, they pull each other from the black depths of their pasts. Tess makes the ultimate mark on Q in this book. It's amazing to see where she came from to where she's ended up; him, too, for that matter. The change to be each other’s monsters give me chills just thinking about it. Their story is beautiful, scary and quite emotional. These characters are two whom you'll come to root for in getting their happily ever after. The strides they both make and where they're both eventually happy leave you with the most satisfying of book hangovers.

However, in doing so, in reaching the end of their twisted story Ms. Winters really drug it out. Her writing flawlessly portrays the beauty of their love. There were some parts her words brought me to tears with their splendor. But, there was a lot of repetitiveness. Understanding this story in part understands that Q and Tess play mind games with themselves, constantly analyzing their actions and feelings, hiding truths from each other. The puzzle of this is fun to follow and read. In Twisted Together there were times when this became overwhelming and I just wanted to move on already. I was hoping that the truths would come easily between them in this book.

Aside from being a bit drawn out, the story stands as a great read and a fitting end to the series. The author kept to her roots and structure of the first two stories to create an epic ending for Q and Tess. I'm so happy I found this series to witness the tragic romance of Q Mercer and his beloved Tess and how they're so beautifully Twisted Together.
