Book Review: Crush

by Eve Ainsworth

The dark and compelling tale of an abusive teen relationship, told from the perspective of the victim, fourteen-year-old Anna.

Lori's thoughts: Purchased copy for read and review.
I read a really great review for this book and had to read it. Good thing I read the review, because truthfully... I never would have bought it based on the useless 1 sentence description shown on Amazon and Goodreads. Really? That's the best you could come up with?!

I did like the book, I had a hard time liking Anna, but that's okay. I didn't necessarily have to like her to feel sorry for her. She had a low self-esteem. She was bitter and hurt over her mother's leaving them. It was easy for her to fall into an abusive relationship with Will. Attractive, popular, controlling, nuts-o Will. I wanted to like the book better than I did, and wound up giving it a four heart rating because it did keep my interest piqued to the end, and it was a page turner. There were just so many more things that the author could have done with this story. And while we knew all along from the beginning where the story was headed, I feel like it was predictable and not very well thought out. Yes, it was good. Yes, there is a message here. I just wish there would have been more to the story.
